Full Time RVers: By Force or By Choice?
I've read some blogs or articles of people and their families living full time in the RV. Everyone has a different story. Most are retirees who are just enjoying themselves now that they've walked away from the rat race. Some are just plain adventurous and all about their passion for traveling. Some lost their jobs or their homes and are hoping to find a better life somewhere. Some are just wanting to try it for a short period of time to check out the country. A lot of Families on the Road are about... family! Whatever the reason is, kudos to the brave ones who dare to discover their own path, create their own way of life and enjoy it to the fullest!
For our family...we wanted to focus on enjoying precious moments we can share NOW and to not take for granted what is really important in life.

Launch Date: 01-September-10
Finally!!! After long days of sorting, packing, cleaning and getting rid of stuff, we are out of the apartment and we officially moved in the RV! So exhausted yet so excited!!! Slept really good after a month of sleepless nights prepping for THE DAY.
Fun adventures await...let's ride!!! I bet it's going to be like a roller-coaster!

Storage Issues
This downsizing and getting rid of things is not as easy as I thought. I have less than two weeks left to turnover my apartment. So, I actually just have a maximum of maybe seven days to remove all my belongings to have some time allotted for cleaning the place. I work four days and my husband five. Three bedroom full of stuff plus a storage space full of more boxes. As of this moment, I'm stressing bad!
Weekend is coming up and we are shooting for a yard sale, if, we can even manage to do that. Reality forces us to find storage! Should we rent a public storage close by, rent a shed-like unit and have it placed in my father in law's backyard, or just buy one instead of renting? Renting would be beneficial if it's going to be temporary, it's pretty expensive and it is better to buy, I guess, if it is for a long term usage. But that's the thing, we're uncertain of the time frame. We find some of the stuff worth keeping but definitely, not in the RV. Most of the stuff, we don't really mind letting go, except for loosing the monetary value of the items. But, is it worth paying the monthly storage fees for stuff that we think we may use in the future?
It is amazing, tho, just writing down this storage issues helps me decide on it. My brain just keeps on telling me one thing...say goodbye to everything and hit the road!!!

Weekend Warriors
Me and my husband, both 35 y/o, with daughters 14 & 2, are working on being balance. Focusing on needs instead of wants and in simplifying life while discovering and appreciating the beauty of the world around us.
We love to travel and the outdoors. It brings us close to each other and close to nature. Our stress reliever from the rat race. Helps us relax, unwind, recoup.
In summer of 2007, we checked out 7 states in a month long road trip. My father in law was diagnosed and was being treated for cancer then. We kind of forced him to come with us... because he did not even want to get out of bed due to his condition. But eventually, during the trip, he started to enjoy the places and the activities and started to forget his depressing state. We left the Grand Canyon and came back to Washington for his doctor's appointment, and to everyone's amazement, his test results came back: cancer-free!
After wards, 3 states in 2008, and a month in the Philippines in 2009. Early this year, we visited the 4 islands of Hawaii. But we have been on the road as weekend warriors whenever we get the chance, mostly boondocking or in RV campgrounds. My father in law is always the first one packed and ready to go every time. For years, his life was just home-work-home, day in and day out routine. Now, he enjoys spontaneity and the role of a cool grandpa.
We are always looking forward to learning new things, meeting new friends, trying new stuff, and heading to new places. For fun adventures and for the experience of the journey itself... our family takes on a different way of enjoying life!
By the end of this month, we'll be moving out of our 3 bedroom/2 bath apartment, dispose most of our material possession and live full time in our 33' Class A RV. Looking forward to join FOTR.
For most people, it's a crazy move!!! We already got some of those response when we decided on homeschooling my teen. But for people who understand and value family time, freedom, the love of learning and living the life, we received commendations.
It does takes courage to let go of things, to venture beyond ones comfort zone, or to stop conforming to what the society dictates. But I do find these words encouraging...
